Bridge Progress so far
The
money that is raised during annual
fundraisers has paid for all of the services,
other than the actual construction phase costs,
associated with this project. “Home Town Streets
and Safe Routes to School”, a program of the
Federal Highway Administration has created a
pool of $750,000.00, through Penn DOT District
11, that will pay for the construction phase
material and construction contracts for the
bridge. Century Steel Erectors, along with the
Ironworkers and Operating Engineers and many
others, will donate much of the equipment and
services to assemble and erect the structure
onto the foundation abutments.
The
following services have been paid for by the
Bike Ride funds:
Preconstruction Phase Engineering and Design
Services, creating the Penn DOT package of
drawing and specifications now in final review
at Penn DOT.
Drilling, for the subsurface geo-tech design
data for the design of the foundations.
Surveying (surveying services were also donated
by Rod Elliott Surveying)
Relocation of Utilities: engineering and
physical relocation of overhead power lines,
cable and phone lines.
With your support, these rides have funded in
excess of $200,000.00 actually spent for these
services to date. The status of the bridge is as
follows:
In July of 2008, PennDot received the complete
set of design package drawings and data for the
actual bridge, including piers and foundations,
weights and quantities of material, which
includes structural steel. Favorable review of
the documents locally and in Harrisburg will
permit the project to move into the
advertisement phase, which will progress to the
construction phase within, perhaps before the
end of this construction season, but definitely
complete before the end of next construction
season. (Penn DOT’s construction seasons run
from about March/April through November of each
year).
